Spotting fake remote jobs

Remote job scams grew with remote hiring itself. Almost all of them follow the same few scripts — learn the scripts and you are safe.

The three red flags

Money flows the wrong way. Any "job" that asks you to pay for equipment, training, or a background check is a scam — real employers never bill candidates. Interviews happen only over chat. Text-only "interviews" on Telegram or WhatsApp are a hallmark of fraud. The offer arrives too fast. A job offer after one chat, without a real conversation, is bait.

How to verify an employer

Check the company domain: scam posts often use look-alike addresses. Search the recruiter name plus the company together. Call the company through its official number and ask if the opening exists. These three checks take ten minutes and stop virtually all fraud.
